As wedding photographers people count on us to find the best spots for photos and the best light, and sometimes we don’t always have much to work with! One of our recent couples showed us a couple links to our own work saying how much they loved it, but then also explained how their place was very different from the links and didn’t have much going on as far as photo ops were concerned. Sooo, we jumped out to Google maps and looked annnnd….she was right! There wasn’t much to inspire us visually…..or was there?!?! We noticed a couple things in the Google street view that gave us some hope and we thought “you know, depending on what that spot looks like in real life we might be able to use it!” And sure enough…in a very short and rushed window of photo time we were able to get a lot of use out of this one very small section of this place and we know they’re going to love every single one of the photos (as of this writing, they haven’t even seen their photos yet!). One of things we love about shooting photos is that while a bride or groom (or anybody else for that matter) may not see the full potential of a spot or situation, our eye and our skills allow us to make the most of it and give our couples photos they may not have ever thought of!

Cassie + Dustin – Japanese Friendship Garden Wedding – Lower Garden

If you look back at Cassie + Dustin’s engagement photos, it’ll be quite obvious how the wedding would go. They’re young and in love and have a lot of personality to top things off. When it came time for the wedding, it was even better than we expected, probably because there was just so much excitement and buzz going around. Great couple plus great families plus great venue plus great decor equals Zelo Photography‘s favorite kind of math! (or some sort of clever remark about this plus that equals this, I dunno, lol).

Anyway, the wedding took place at San Diego’s Japanese Friendship Garden down in the lower garden next to Balboa Park. We’ve been there a couple times since that whole remodel has been completed and it’s really amazing. It’s like you’re in this lush green valley of serenity. We did some photos up in the Balboa Park area but most of the awesomeness took place down in the lower area of Japanese Friendship Garden.

Sometimes you don’t get all the time you wish you could have prior to the wedding to break in your wedding shoes….THANKFULLY ice exists to take care of the problem, haha! Cassie was a trooper and a great sport for letting us snap the priceless moments while we waited for the Ketubah signing to get going 🙂

Cassie’s dad was ready to go in case we needed to call for backup, lol! I mean, he’s using Nikon, but we’ll let it slide this once 🙂

You can see from the ceremony photos above, and from the reception photos below, the florals and decor for this wedding were amazing! Adorations Botanical Artistry did an amazing job! Quite the setup, and of course it made a huge impression on us and the guests!

The Mighty Untouchables rocked the house as usual. Every time we find out they’ll be providing the music we know it’s going to be a successful party. Definitely one of the absolute best bands to keep your party going strong!

Sebastopol Wedding at The Barlow – Part 2 of Sarah + Dave

We see you’ve come back for Part 2 of Sarah + Dave’s wedding at The Barlow in Sebastopol. If you missed Part 1 you can see it here. As we mentioned in Part 1, Sarah + Dave made such a great decision in choosing The Barlow for their wedding venue. I think it’s a venue that, if we were getting married now, would be a style of venue that would be right up our alley. Buuuut we got married almost 15 years ago and there were no cool venues then, haha!!

Anyway, we just want to reiterate how awesome a wedding can be when the Bride + Groom just have fun together. It’s also a great thing to surround yourself with friends and family that can have fun too. It keeps the smiles coming all day long. Sarah + Dave’s Wedding at The Barlow in Sebastopol California Part 1

Once again, Sarah + Dave were another one of our NorCal couples that we never met with in person until the big day. But as usual, things just flowed so nicely and it was like we had already met, done an engagement session, had lunch, shared laughs….oh, and the weather was beautiful.

Sarah + Dave had their wedding at The Barlow in Sebastopol, California. When we received their inquiry, we were like “what the heck is The Barlow”? And when we looked it up we were like “they do weddings there?” Oh yes, they do weddings there! Fortunately we were shooting another wedding in NorCal a couple months before Sarah + Dave’s wedding and we were able to cruise over and do some scouting at The Barlow in advance so we could see the venue first hand and get an idea of what was around. What a great space, and Sarah + Dave’s wedding was the perfect wedding for The Barlow. Not too big, not too small….perfect.

The ceremony lawn is tucked away on the backside of the venue and has a big ol’ tree that serves as a great spot to exchange vows. The Barlow has a unique mix of greenery, modern, industrial and rustic. If you’re looking for a wedding venue in the Sebastopol California area, go check it out! If you’re not looking for a wedding venue, go check it out anyway and have lunch and do a little shopping 🙂
